Music Ministry at Benton

We know from Scripture that God has created us to glorify him; to be worshippers of him alone. Jesus said that the first and greatest commandment is “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” This doesn’t leave us room to worship or give our honour or the weight of our life’s attention to anything before the living God. Fundamentally, worshipping God is obedience to him and it includes every area of our lives. It’s not limited to music & singing.

In a Sunday morning service we join together as a church family to intentionally direct our obedience of Worship to God in the way he desires, “in Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). We do this through fellowship, music, singing, prayer, testimonies, preaching of the word, and other elements such as communion and baptism. When it comes to leading the musical portions of of the service, our desire is to offer the best of our skills and posture of our hearts to God, while leading and modelling the importance of doing so for our congregation.

Psalm 33
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
  it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
Praise the Lord with the harp;
  make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
Sing to him a new song;
 play skillfully, and shout for joy.
